Nishant

The trail, and the house at the end of it.

Nishant runs Oakakhi, the family home in the oak forest above Ranikhet where every Turiya journey begins. For years he has welcomed travellers there: Oakakhi holds a 5.0 rating across more than two hundred Google reviews, most of them about the home-cooked food, the views and the welcome. And he watched most of those guests look at the forest from the porch, and leave.

Walking is where he goes quiet. Not the fast walking of a group racing to a viewpoint, but the long, steady kind, where the breath settles and the mind follows. He is BMC mountaineering certified, and leads every trek himself.

On a walk with Nishant you will notice how little he says, and how much he sees: the change in the weather before it arrives, the tired walker at the back before they say anything, the clearing worth stopping in.

  • Himalayan safety
  • Hospitality
  • Forest ecology

“I've hosted people at Oakakhi for years. What I want now is to actually walk them into the forest, not just point at it from the porch.”
