Every journey begins at Oakakhi
A small homestay in the oak forest above Ranikhet, at around 1,800 metres. Chai first. Nothing is discussed until chai is in hand.
A home, not a base camp
Oakakhi is run by Nishant, our lead guide, who has hosted people here for years. It is where you arrive, where you eat, and where you come back to after a day on the trail.
The Kalika forest trail starts close by, and so do most of our forest walks and birding mornings. The sky above it is dark enough for our astro nights to happen right here, on the rooftop or in the meadow nearby.
We do not sell village life as a separate ticket. It is simply how the days already work: chai with Nishant's family, home-cooked Kumaoni meals, and mornings that start slowly because the mountain is not going anywhere.
